VIDEO: Morgan Smith (Jordan ’09) and Megan Larcom (Tunisia ’09 and Morocco ’10) in Egypt

In summer 2011, Morgan Smith (Jordan '09) and Megan Larcom (Tunisia '09 and Morocco '10) received CLS Alumni Development Funding to continue Arabic studies in Jordan. Below is a summary of their experience.

Upon completing our Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships at Alexandria University and Port Said University, Morgan and Megan joined forces in the classroom in June 2011, this time as students, not teachers.  Our goal during this month of intensive Arabic study was to focus solely on Arabic, incorporating the language into everything we did throughout each day. From hours with al-Kitaab and even more hours with local news sources, such as Masri Al-Youm, to hours out and about with our Egyptian friends, we began to see growth, slowly but surely with our vocabularies, grammar, and confidence.  We were fortunate to be able to travel extensively, developing cross-cultural friendships by being open to learning from the people we were living among and sharing parts of our American heritage.

Here is a short video providing a glimpse into our Egyptian and Arabic adventures, made possible by the generosity of the CLS Alumni Development Fund.  Thank you!!
